The Cascade

THE GREATEST.

Just real quick before I get ready for my walk after work and therapy, here’s my typical prayer I used to mentally recite (but have workshopped since then) but now I load up and read after ~1hr corpse pose closed eye nostril focused attention mindfulness meditation (temperature and pressure at the openings of the nostrils; the loop is “intentional concentration and unintentional contemplation”; return from mind wandering (Default Mode Network, experiential/narrative self) to object of concentration; the point is to use Concentration to induce Mindfulness):

Meditation modalities:

Focused Attention (FA), Open Monitoring (OM), Nondual (ND)

FA ←→ OM ←→ ND (“From many to (n)one: Meditation and the plasticity of the predictive mind”; Ruben E. Laukkonen, Heleen A. Slagter)

You basically induce mindfulness with agentic concentration and oscillate between one object and scanning, which then just levels your baseline awareness.

Zen:

Zazen (‘just sitting’) –> Shikantaza (‘Silent Illumination’) –> Satori/Kensho

Koans

Self Power (Meditation; see above) <–> Other Power (Nembutsu)
